Lumen Technologies has struck its latest edge computing deal through a strategic partnership with Microsoft that will bring Microsoft Azure cloud capabilities onto the Lumen platform.
The collaboration will see mutual customers benefitting from being able to run Microsoft-based solutions closer to where digital interactions take place through the edge computing services of Lumen.
Building on earlier edge computing deals this year with VMware and IBM, Lumen’s most recent partnership with Microsoft will allow for private 5G deployments to utilise Microsoft software technology and enterprise applications that have strict bandwidth and latency requirements.
Shaun Andrews, executive VP and CMO for Lumen, said: “By deeply integrating more of our platform services with Microsoft Azure, we can help businesses quickly utilise their data for the insights they want and need, with the ability to support unique and customized use cases.”
The deal will also see Lumen tap Microsoft for more of its own IT needs and promote Microsoft Azure as the preferred public cloud provider for enterprise customers. Similarly, Microsoft will favour Lumen for its networking needs.
Yousef Khalidi, corporate VP, Azure for operators at Microsoft, said: “With this collaboration we are expanding the ways in which businesses can connect Azure to their enterprise networks and are excited about having Lumen as a collaboration partner to expand the number of use cases we can achieve at the edge of the network.”
