Xilinx claims edge compute milestone with highest AI performance-per-Watt

Xilinx, a specialist in adaptive computing, has introduced the Versal AI Edge series, designed to enable AI innovation from the edge to the endpoint. 

With 4X the AI performance-per-watt versus GPUs1 and 10X greater compute density versus previous-generation adaptive system-on-chips (SoCs), Xilinx describes the Versal AI Edge series as “the world’s most scalable and adaptable portfolio for next-generation distributed intelligent systems”.

More than half of business use or plan to utilise edge computing

Edge computing adoption is picking up, with 54% of organisations either utilising or planning to utilise edge computing technologies within the next year. 

Another 30% have plans to evaluate edge deployments over the next 12 to 24 months.

These details were unveiled in the 2021 IoT and Edge Commercial Adoption Survey report compiled by the Eclipse Foundation, one of the world’s largest open source foundations.
